Cycle rallyists to revive the spirit of freedom
New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) Seven Cycle Rallies comprising 210 cyclists drawn from Sashastra Seema Bal and Nehru Yuva Kendra took off from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim to sensitise the people about the sacrifices made by the martyrs of the first war of Indian Independence in 1857.
The rally was organised to gravitate the youth to take up the responsibility of effecting socio-economic change by engaging in building micro-infrastructure on self help basis.
The motto of the rally was 'Rashtriya Nirman Ke Liye Yuva'.
At Gangtok the rally was flagged off by Sikkim HRD Minister Gurjman Gurung on August 10. On the second day it was flagged off at Singtham by state Youth and Sports Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
The SSB organised one-day's programmes, enroute the rally, to felicitate the cyclists and help spread their message.
Similarly, rallies were flagged off at Dighal Bank in Kishangunj (Bihar), Jhulaghat in Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand), Ambavishnupur in Lakhimpur Kheri and Sunaoli in Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) and at Valmikinagar in West Champaran and Arsha village in Araria (Bihar).
Most of the rallies will conclude at their respective state capitals and will be flagged in by dignitaries at the Independence Day celebration venues of the state capitals.
Each rally has 30 participants, including 15 participants each from SSB and NYKS. At various halting points of the cycle rally, free medical camps for people and their livestock were organised by SSB doctors.
Tree plantation, blood donation, sports, literary and cultural competitions and football matches were also being organised.
