Couple tries to commit suicide, hospitalised

Jammu, Aug 13 (UNI) A recently married couple tried to commit suicide in their home at Kunjwani Bypass, outskirts of the Jammu city, last evening and were struggling for life in the hospital after receiving more than 90 per cent burns.

Facing taunts from the society, Uttam Singh, who married his cousin Anuradha recently, poured kerosene on himself and his wife and attempted immolation, police said.

They were admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where their condition was stated to be very critical.

Ignoring all social and legal norms, Uttam Singh, 45, a autorikshaw driver and father of four children had married Anuradha, his 17-year-old cousin in Gangyal area of the city, a police officer said.
