Congress led coalition in JK trying to destroy political character
Srinagar, Aug 13 (UNI) The National Conference (NC) President Omar Abdullah today accused the Congress led coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir of trying to destroy the socio-political character of the state.
President of the NC, main opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah , MP, alleged that the coalition government unsuccessfully tried to institutionalise a scheme aimed at demonising the constitutional safeguards of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
However, because of timely intervention of the NC in and outside the Legislative Assembly, the government failed in its designs, he said adding that his party was up in arms to safeguard the political interest of the people of the state.
He accused the government that through a wide range of issues from permanent residents (disqualification) bill to the leasing out of state-land to the non-state subjects and recently the settlement of West Pakistani refugees are seen as most threatening to the survivability of the people and the most poignant evidences of their intentions to destroy the socio-political character of the state '' Mr Omar Abdullah castigated.
He said their intentions should be viewed in the light of these unpleasant developments while ours (NC) should be viewed in the light of its tireless efforts which forces the government to bow before the public resentment.
Mr Omar said people have realized that NC has played a pivotal role while in Opposition BY defending the socio-economic and geo-political interests of the people of the state.
He further said the corruption was eating up THE vitals of the state and that the coalition government has failed in providing a corruption free administration to the people.
Former Union External Affairs Minister said the NC contributed its lot in building pressure on both India and Pakistan to look for more durable solutions to their problems.
Mr Omar said the NC leadership was successful in its efforts to give India and Pakistan to understand that there was no military solution to the problem and that a durable purposeful and institutionaliSed dialogue process internally and externally could go a long way in addressing the concerns of the parties.
In our meetings with the leadership of south Asian countries and the European Union, the NC put forth its views to address the internal dimensions of the Kashmir problem through restoration of autonomy to the state which could become panacea for the resolution of all other problems of internal dimensions.
''We are conscious of our onerous responsibility of fighting the those who have turned the state in a huge industry of vested interests and who are very keen in status-quo creating hardles for peaceful resolution of the problems'' Mr Omar said.
