AIKS plans nation-wide stir
Kochi, Aug 13 (UNI) All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) will launch a nation-wide strike to highlight the problems faced by the farmers of the country, its General Secretary Atul Kumar Anjaan said today.
Mr Anjaan, who was here to attend the three-day National Council Meeting of AIKS, said the problems faced by the agriculture sector was due to the negative policies followed by the Central and state governments.
The governments have failed to initiate a long-term policy to solve the multi-dimensional problems faced by the sector, he alleged.
The strike would be organised to press their nine-point demand charter, including subsidy in agriculture, Central legislation for farmers welfare and review of SEZ Act of 2005, he added.
The Sabha would be organising various protest rallies and demonstration from September 1-15 in various places across the country.
Mr Anjaan said a 'Farmers Delhi Chalo' programme would also be chalked out during the budget session of April 2008.
