New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) Reflecting the patriotic mood of the nation on the eve of Independence Day, Air Hostess Academy(AHA), India's premier training institute for the sevice industry organised 'Heights of Glory and Freedom to Fly' -- a special Kite Flying event here today.

AHA students along with their family members and friends participated in the Kite flying event. Similar celebrations were held in Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore and other AHA centers located across the country.

AHA Founder and Director Sapna Gupta inaugurated the event by lighting of the lamp and flying a kite.

Speaking on the occasion, she said, ''It is a glorious day for all of us. Today we are not only celebrating India's 60th Independence Day but also the spirit of Independence that has permeated across all sections of the economy. This spirit has created vast employment opportunities across emerging sectors of aviaton, hospitality and a number of services sectors.'' The stage was set by rocking pop numbers from Bollywood. The students were also asked to give suggestions on how to minimise the effects of global warming.

Some of the suggestions that came up were avoiding use of plastic bags, planting of more trees and promoting use of CNG instead of petrol. The students were divided into groups and a small dance competition was held before the kite flying contest. This was followed by a dance performance by Dreams Academy of Arts with Independence Day as the theme.

Each participant was given colourful kites which carried to the sky the messages reflecting their sensitivities towards growing environmental concerns.

''AHA wants to spread awareness among today's young generation about the possible effects of this global warming on the environment,'' Ms Gupta added.

Students from Dhaula Kuan, Rohini, Rajouri Garden, South Extension, Faridabad, Preet Vihar and Kingsway Camp centers participated in the contest.

The venue wore a festive look with foot-tapping songs played by well-known punjabi pop singers Love Grewal, Shankar Sawhney and Jasbir Jassi. The sky attained a rainbow hue due to the kites.

Asif from Kingsway Camp center was declared winner of the kite flying contest. At the conclusion of the event, all the participants of AHA gathered in true spirits to salute the nation and celebrated the spirit of Independence.
