29 kg ammonium nitrate seized, miscreant escapes
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Aug 13 (UNI) The city police have seized 29 kg of ammonium nitrate which was abandoned by a man in an autorickshaw near the Aurangabad railway station last night while escaping from octroi officials.
Police said the man, aged around 30, had alighted from the Deogiri Express at around 2330 hours and boarded an autorickshaw to reach the central bus stand.
At that moment, an octroi official spotted the man and finding his manner suspicious, quizzed him about the contents of his bag.
Curious bystanders also flocked the place to see what was happening. Taking advantage of the commotion, the man escaped leaving the bag behind.
The Osmanpur police was informed about the matter following which senior officers rushed to the spot. A sniffer dog squad was pressed into service and the whole area was cordoned off but the man could not be traced.
An inspection of the bag revealed it contained 29 kg of the explosive chemical ammonium nitrate.
