New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) The first Mini-Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas will be organised in New York on September 23 by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA).

Announcing this on the occasion of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on the Know Indian Programme (KIP) here today, Minister of NRI Affairs, Vayalar Ravi said PIOs and NRIs from North and South American continents will participate in it.

Apart from them, Caribbean countries, where the second largest number of PIOs are living, will also be involved in it.

The KIP is aimed at introducing overseas Indian youth to the culture, heritage, history, economy and development of India and to establish and maintain a website for the purpose involving a network of these youths.

It will provide a forum to students and young professionals of Indian origin to share their views, expectations and experience, and thereby bond closely with contemporary India.

The KIP will also create awareness about the phenomenal transformation taking place in India and the country's progress from just a destination for culture, heritage and art to an emerging powerhouse in the global economic system.

The two/three-week comprehensive orientation programme is organised two to three times in a year by the Ministry, including one which coincides with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas held every year around January 9.

'Young Indians', the youth wing of CII, would execute the KIP -- being organsied in partnership with the Goa government -- in the Capital and in the United States.
