Portuguese President honours Goan musician
Panaji, Aug 12 (UNI) Portuguese President Dr Anibal Cavaco Silva has honoured noted Goan musician Orlando de Noronha by presenting him a Portuguese guitar at an exclusive ceremony.
The ceremony, Encontro dos Notaveis, was held recently at the Museu do Trabalho at Setubal and attended by several dignitaries including the internationally-renowned Portuguese fado singer Katia Guerreiro, Banco BIG President Dr Carlos Rodrigues, Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho and singer Dulce Pontes among others.
Highly impressed with Noronha's musical performance with Guerreiro during the Portuguese President's visit to India, Dr Silva took the initiative, along with the Portuguese Presidential office, to specially invite Noronha to Portugal for the honour.
According to Portuguese-language website www.supergoa.com, Noronha is also credited with introducing the art of azulejos (Portuguese hand-painted tiles) in Goa, having trained himself in the same a few years ago in Portugal.
