Hyderabad, Aug 12: The city police today said they had launched an investigation into the case registered against exiled Bangladesh Author Taslima Nasreen under Sec 153 (a) of the IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion) based on a complaint from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Akberuddin Owaisi.

West Zone DCP Madhusudhan Reddy told sources the police would take action immediately after the investigation was completed. He also said there was a possibility of summoning Ms Nasreen here.

A case was also registered against Mr Owaisi under section 506 (criminal intimidation) for threatening the Bangladeshi writer saying 'she would be beheaded if she visits Hyderabad again.' The case was registered, based on the news clippings, after getting permission from the local court.

Meanwhile, Andhra Prdesh Human Rights Commission has taken a serious note of the attack on Ms Nasreen by the AIMIM activists when she visited the city recently for a function. Speaking at a function organised on the occasion of the second anniversary of the APHRC, Commission Chairman B Subhashan Reddy said the incident was a clear violation of the human rights.

Stating the Commission was willing to take cognisance of the event either suo moto or on a petition filed by any one, Justice Reddy said if there was negligence on the part of the police in providing proper protection to the writer, the Commission would take necessary action after inquiry. He said any one could file the petition before the SHRC.

He also announced that the Commission would soon start a web site to inform people about its activities.
