NDA demands steps to prevent killing of Biharis in Assam

Patna, Aug 12 (UNI) Taking cognizance of the recent killing of Hindi speaking people in Assam, Opposition NDA today demanded the Centre to immediately intervene and initiate special measures to stop such heinous crimes.

BJP national president Rajnath Singh and JD(U) national president Sharad Yadav told mediapersons here that such incidents were direct attack on the country's unity and integrity.

The Centre should immediately take actions to curb such henious attacks on the people who migrate from one state to other in search of livelihood, they said.

''People in the country are free to move to any state and if such attacks were not prevented it would affect the peace of the nation,'' they opined.

Both the leaders together said a joint parliamentary team of the NDA would soon visit Assam to probe into the attack on Biharis and other Hindi speaking people there.

At least 26 Hindi speaking people, mostly from Bihar, were killed in Assam's Karbi Anlong district within the last 72 hours.

Meanwhile, Bihar home commissioner Afzal Amanullah informed that the Assam government had announced compensation of Rs three lakhs to the kins of each victim.
