Moderate showers cool Delhi, more rain forecast tomorrow
New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) After a dry spell over the last one week, moderate to heavy showers lashed Delhi tonight, plummeting the mercury by several degrees and bringing tremendous relief to the people.
The showers, which hit Delhi at around 2030 hrs, brought down the maximum temperature by four degrees, from 34 degrees Celcius even though only 10 mm of rainfall was recorded till 2100 hrs.
The showers ended the nearly week-long dry spell in Delhi since Monday, which saw the Capital reel under hot and humid conditions.
Earlier today, a heavily overcast sky welcomed Delhiites in the morning after a bright sunlight over the last two to three days.
The clouds, together with the cool westerly winds, provided people a lot of respite from the hot and humid conditions, making it a pleasant weekend for them.
Weatherman attributed the turnaround in the city's weather to the build up of a low pressure area in the Northwest Bay of Bengal which they say could lead to some heavy rainfall in Delhi and other plains of Northwest India in the next two to three days.
'' The current meteorological analysis suggests scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in the plains of Northwest India in the next two to three days, '' the Met office said.
The Met office has forecast a generally cloudy sky in the national capital during the next 24 hours, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
