Lalu has no right to criticise Nitish govt: JD(U)

Patna, Aug 12 (UNI) The JD(U) today said Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had no moral right to criticise the Nitish Kumar government as there were police shoot-out incidents on flood victims during the RJD regime.

JD (U) spokesman Shivanand Tiwari told newspersons here that during the RJD regime, altogether 11 flood victims were killed in police firing at Vaishali and Darbhanaga when they demandwd relief in 1998 and 2004.

Money alloted for flood relief was swindled by officers in connivance with politicians in 2004, he added.

''How can Mr Prasad afford to criticise the Nitish Kumar government when track record of the erstwhile RJD government on flood relief distribution was very poor,'' Mr Tiwari said.

Referring to the recent killing of one person in Madhubani, he said that NDA government had acted swiftly on the incident and the erring police officer has been placed under suspension. Mr Tiwari said that victims' kin were also given compensation while no such action was taken during the erstwhile RJD regime.

Describing the current flood situation as one of the worst in the state's history, he said even the United Nations had mentioned the flood situation as the worst in the last 100 years.
