Governor to meet freedom fighters on Independence Day

Gandhinagar, Aug 12 (UNI) On the occassion of 60th anniversary of Independence day, Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma will meet freedom fighters at Raj Bhavan on August 15.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi on August 8 had announced the government's decision to double the monthly pension to freedom fighters from Rs 2,260 to Rs 5,000 on the eve of August 9, which marks the anniversary of 'Quit India Movement' of 1942.

The monthly pension scheme would not be confined to just Gujarat but would also cover freedom fighters of Diu, Daman and Goa.
