Port Blair, Aug 11 (UNI) With Raksha Bandhan and heavy rains round the corner, the Postal Department here has introduced a special waterproof and tearproof Rakhi cover for the tsunami-hit Andaman islands.

These light but fortified covers have been designed to prevent from any sort of damage so the Rakhis, which symbolise a sister's love for her brother, reaches him intact, wherever he may be, Director of Postal Services in Andaman and Nicobar Islands Mrs Madhumita Das told UNI today.

Mrs Das said the covers had been made available at all post offices in this capital city apart from the POs in Garacharma, Bambooflat, Wimberlygunj, Baratang, Rangat, Mayabunder, Diglipur, Hut Bay, Havelock, Car Nicobar and Campbell Bay.

The covers are priced at Rs five. The Rakhi envelopes would also be available with postmen during their beats at no extra cost.

Postmen would also be carrying stamps for the envelopes, the Director said.

''Special arrangements for posting of the rakhis for mainland destinations had been made at the Port Blair Head Post Office.

Considering the geographical remoteness, all rakhis posted in Andaman and Nicobar islands would be given air-lift to the mainland,'' the Director added.
