Security beefed up in Fatehabad after I-day threat

Fatehabad, Aug 11 (UNI) A letter threatening terrorist activities on Independence Day, purportedly written by an Islamic militant group here, has prompted Police to register a case against unknown persons for sedition, criminal intimidation and provoking enmity among different communities.

The police and railway security have been beefed up in the area after the letter threatening to blow up Jakhal and Tohana railway stations on August 15, besides eliminating known Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev and Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was received here by a local organisation SP Saurabh Singh said.

According to the SP, the anonymous author, called himself a leader of terrorist group Al-Badr in the letter received by the Shiv Sewa Mandal, Jakhal.

The letter was written in broken Hindi.

The SP said the police had registered a case under sections 124-A, 154-A and 506 of the IPC against unknown persons.

He stressed that security had been tightened and police would ensure that no untoward incident took place either on I-day or any other time.

The SP, Railways, Bharti Arora, when contacted, said the railway police had increased the security at railway stations.

However, she said such letters had been received in the past too, and it appeared to be a mischief played by some irresponsible persons.

She appealed to the people not to panic and assured them that police was well prepared to handle any situation.
