Gulbarga, Aug 11 (UNI) The Ramasetu Rakshna Samiti (RRS), which is spearheading a movement against the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP), will launch a nation-wide agitation tomorrow and on August 13.

Informing this at a press conference here yesterday, RRS state president Basavaraj Hiremath said the Samiti had given a 'Rameswaram Chalo' call on August 26, in which lakhs of people were expected to converge in the coastal town to express displeasure over the destruction of mythical 'Ramasethu' or Adam's bridge.

He said all Hindus in India and abroad strongly believed that Ramasetu was constructed by Hanuman to lead the army of Sri Rama to Lanka.

He said the Samiti would observe a fast on August 13 here to protest against the SSCP. Abut 5,000 devotees of Lord Rama would go to Rameswaram from Karnataka to participate in 'Rameswaram Chalo'.

Explaining the natural significance of Ramasethu, he said it protected Kerala from the devastating tsunami on December 26, 2004.

''Destruction of the bridge will hurt the sentiments of Hindus,'' he added.
