Regularise unauthorised colonies to stop corruption: Sabharwal
New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Inordinate delay on the part of Delhi Government to come up with a plan to regularise about 2000 odd unauthorised colonies in the capital was promoting corruption, former chief justice of India Y K Sabharwal has observed.
Justice Sabharwal, chairing a function organised to release a book -- ''Who owns CBI''-- written by former CBI joint director, regretted that every Chief Minister of Delhi promised the courts several times that they were drawing up a definite plan to regularise these colonies but failed to do so till now.
''Who is stopping them to take a decision in this regard,'' he asked adding that the delay was breeding corruption.
''My only request to the Delhi Government is take some decision, at least this way or that way,'' he said.
Such issues could have been better handled by the Lokpal but the Lokpal bill had been pending for the last 40 years. The Bill which had been to parliament eight times, was still languishing in the corridors of power, Justice Sabharwal said.
Speaking about the functioning of the investigating agencies in the country, he said they cannot work independently as political bosses influence them in every state.
Pinning his hopes on the youth, he said there was need to invest on them by imbibing right values so that they can bring a positive change in the country.
Talking about sealing drive in Delhi, Justice Sabharwal said, ''Several allegations had been made against me regarding my sealing orders, but it did not bother me because there was no truth in the allegations... I will continue with my crusade. My shoulders are strong enough to carry on the weight of righteousness.'' ''Our laws are good, the constitution is one of the best but the problem lies in the lack of will in implementation'', Justice Sabharwal said.
