Presence of Army has generated 40,000 jobs in J K: Governor
Srinagar, Aug 11 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt General (Retd) S K Sinha said presence of the Army in the state has generated over 40,000 jobs besides its spending of Rs 1250 crore greatly helps in boosting the economy of the state.
He said Army had never shirked its responsibility to ensure the welfare of people of the state and its presence has generated over 40,000 jobs for skilled and unskilled workers, mostly those on the mountains.
Addressing students in Gujjar Hostel at Kupwara, once the hub of militants, he said Army's annual spending of Rs 1250 crore greatly helps in boosting economy of the state.
The statement of Governor came at a time when a number of political parties, including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a partner in the coalition government, are demanding reduction and relocation of troops in the state.
The Army is not here only to protect the people but they have been contributing in the state's development as well, he added.
Responding to the basic requirements needed in the hostel, the Governor said students Army will soon take up the task of levelling a play ground for the students besides providing necessary wherewithal for various game.
He said a television set with dish antenna besides two computers would be arranged for the hostel besides raising a fencing wall.
the government has already provided Rs 27 lakhs for the upgradation and renovation of this hostel, he added.
