Pondy Minister checks functioning of NGOs

Puducherry, Aug 11: Puducherry Welfare Minister M Kandasamy today paid surprise visits to several non-governmental organisations functioning here with financial support from the Union Social Welfare Ministry following widespread complaints.

Mr Kandasamy later told newspersons here that he could see only the name board of some of NGOs as there were no activities. Giving an example, he said a private school was functioning in the office of an NGO.

The Minister said the administration would take steps to cancel the licence of the organisations which were not functioning, despite obtaining funds from the Centre.
