One dead, six sick after gas leakage at plastic factory
Lucknow, Aug 11 (UNI) At least one person has died and six have been reported sick after gas leak in a plastic factory in which they were working in the Sarojini Nagar area of the Uttar Pradesh capital.
Police said Chotu died on the night of August 9 after battling for life for two days, but the matter was reported to police last night only. Six others have been admitted to the King George's Medical University and hospital for treatment.
The labourers claimed that a 'poisonous gas' had leaked from the factory furnace on Monday. The plastic factory is located in the Ghulab Khera village of Sarojini Nagar on the outskirts of the capital city. Discarded plastic is melted in the factory to be used as raw material for manufacturing pipes.
The matter came to light after the gram pradhan informed the police about the death of Chotu.
Police claimed that some of the patients admitted to hospital were behaving erratically when health officials were taking them to hospital.
Tshough the incident took place in Sarojini Nagar, most of those affected belonged to Banthara.
