NSD helping woman Director to popularise theatre in Manipur

Imphal, Aug 11 (UNI) The National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi has come forward to support one of its woman products to popularise theatre in the Manipur.

Toijam Shila Devi, a young graduate from the NSD, who had opened the Prospective Repertory Theatre, Manipur (PRTM), staged a powerful play, Amamba Yug (Andha Yug) in different parts of the state.

The drama was presented to spread the message of theatre education and as confidence-building exercise of new artistes under the aegis of the NSD, Director Shila said.

The methodology was to involve local organisations and present the play at different venues in different districts, so that people would know theatre movement, she said.

Such was the success that after showing the play in three different venues, another play had also been produced. The two plays would be presented in about six venues at Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishenpur, Thoubal districts soon, she added.

'' Lots of interests, specially among women, were generated by such plays and the intensive exercise involved was to associate the local organisations,'' she stated.
