Nine more banks to install ATMs at 440 railway stations
Patna, Aug 11 (UNI) Altogether 440 Automated Teller Machines(ATMs) of nine different public and private sector Banks will be installed at different railway stations across the country by March, 2008.
Railway ministry sources here today said following the installation of these ATMS, the total number of this facility, set up in various stations all over the country, would go up to 1833.
out Of these, about 1200 would have the additional e-ticketing facility through Internet kiosks, installed alongside the ATMs.
Of the new 440 locations under different divisions of Indian Railway, the maximum of 75 ATMs would be installed in stations under Western Railway, followed by 65 in Central Railway, 63 in Northern Railway, 54 in Southern Railway, 53 in North Western Railway, 24 in West Central Railway, 21 in South Central Railway, 20 in Eastern Railway, 15 in South Eastern Railway, 12 in South Western Railway, 11 in North Central Railway, 6 each in East Central and South East Central Railway and 5 each in East Coast, North Eastern and Northeast Frontier railways, the sources informed.
The nine banks, which had been allowed to install the new ATMs, were the Bank of Rajasthan, Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, ICICI Bank, UTI Bank, UCO Bank, HDFC Bank, Syndicate Bank and J and K Bank.
Incidentally, last year the Railway ministry had first joined hands with the State Bank of India for installation of ATMs at 662 railway stations across the country.
Following its overwhelming success six more public sector banks- Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank, Indian Bank, Dena Bank, Union Bank of India and Bank of Baroda- were later allowed to set up ATM facilities at 711 more stations under different divisions before signing agreements with nine more banks this week, the sources added.
