Mukesh Ambani appointed President of Petroleum Univ in Guj

Gandhinagar, Aug 11 (UNI) Chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd Mukesh Ambani has been appointed as the founder president of the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU).

According to a release, Gujarat Legislative Assembly passed the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University Act in February this year.

The University is promoted by Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI), established by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC), with the objective to create state-of-the-art facilities for formal education, training and research to meet the increasing needs for technological and managerial manpower for energy sector in general and that of oil and gas domains in particular.

In order to achieve this objective, the PDPU has been established to create world-class institute for imparting management and engineering course in the energy sector, the release added.

Recognising the huge shortage of skilled manpower worldover as also the major changes undergoing in the energy sector, GSPC has set up the university, a first step towards creating a world-class knowledge base.

Mr Ambani, a chemical engineer with MBA and a business tycoon, being the president of the university would help in taking the institution to the elite group of world renowned and global educational universitites.

Under the aegis of the university, Institute of Petroleum Management (IPMG) Institute of Petroleum Technology (IPTG) have already been established.

The IPMG offers MBA in oil and gas sector. Currently, 120 students are undergoing two year full time MBA programme. The IPTG offers B Tech programme which commences from the current academic year. The institute has given admission to 240 students for B Tech programme.

The university has also developed a executive training and development centre for offering short term certificate programmes for executives and professionals who feel the need to keep themselves abreast with the latest technology and management practices of the energy and petroleum sector.

It has already conducted several short term courses in production sharing contract for oil and gas exploration and production, specifics of deep water drilling, LNG business opportunities and challenges, etc.

The university also has a research and innovation centre which offers opportunities for research and innovation.

For developing the growth of the university, post-graduate and doctoral programmes related to management and technology are also on the anvil.

The university also plans to have collaboration and tie-up with the world-class universities from the US and Australia, the release added.
