Ahmedabad, Aug 11: Police action on Mahila Congress workers at the Congress rally in Gandhinagar was highly condemnable, said Gujarat Mahila Congress president and MLA Chandrikaben Chudasma.

Several women activists were injured and had to be hospitalised yesterday. A chief minister who talks about ''Yashoda Mata awards'', and ''Beti bachao andolan'' day in and day out has totally forgotten about respecting women and the prestige of narishakti, Chandrikaben Chudasma said in a release here.

The brutal teargassing and lathicharge on women had resulted in serious injuries to general secretary of Pradesh Mahila Congress Hinaben Patel who had to be admitted to the civil hospital in Gandhinagar. Also admitted are Gandhinagar city chief Ushaben Gohil, Lilaben Dabhi and others, Chandrikaben said.

Condemning the repressive methods of Modi government, Mahila Congress general secretaries Kusumben Rathod, Happyben Arora, Sonalben Patel and Ahmedabad city Mahila Chief Krishnaben Thakkar and spokeswomen for Mahila Congress Rekhaben Chaudhary and Margaret Christian said that those police personnel who were involved in the unprovked and brutal action should be identified and punished. This is the only way to give justice to those who are injured seriously, they said.
