Local police to keep surveillance on civilians: IG

Jammu, Aug 11 (UNI) Instructing security forces to remain vigilant to thwart the activities of non-residents, Jammu and Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IG) Dr SP today asked all house-owners of the city to give proper and timely information about the persons or families living in their homes.

Talking to media at police control room (PCR) complex after killing of a dreaded Pakistani militant and operational Chief of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) Saifullah Qarri, Dr Vaid said the militants were living in the house of one Begum Maqsuda Khatun's since over a month but local police was not aware of this. Maqsuda's husband is a businessman in Saudi Arabia.

''It is very unfortunate and surprising that a group of militants, including one of the most wanted terrorist were living in the heart of city and we were unknown about their activities,'' Dr Vaid said in reply of a question.

Dr SP admitted that police was informed by intelligence agencies yesterday that three Pakistani militants including Qarri have taken shelter in a house at Ramzan Pura Mohalla under jurisdiction of Janipur police station.

The police administration has issued a directive to all station house officers (SHO) and police stations to collect and keep complete information about non-residents persons or families living on rent at different places in the city.

''The security personel in Jammu region were also asked to remain vigilant to thwart the house owners where non-resident are living,'' he said.
