Bhubaneswar, Aug 11 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asked the state chief secretary to probe the allegation of exaggerated marks secured by School and Mass Education Minister Binshnu Das's son in the HSC examination.

The Chief Minister's direction came in the wake of newspaper report that the Minister's son was awarded more numbers in the HSC examination in a ''fraudulent'' way and the Board of Secondary Education President was transferred as he ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy, official sources said, was asked to submit the report to the Chief Minister at the earliest.

The inquiry was ordered even though the Minister hurriedly called a press conference this morning to issue a clarification stating that on revaluation of the examination papers, his son's total marks in the HSC examination were reduced from 602 to 478 marks.

The School and Mass Education Minister told newsmen that he had a doubt about the marks secured by his son Bijaya Shankar Das in the MIL (oriya) subject when he came to know that Bijaya had secured 89 marks while answering 90 marks in the examination.

Mr Das said he himself ordered for revaluation of examination papers of his son and on verification, it was found that the marks had been wrongly mentioned in the tabulation as 89 instead of 39.

In some other subjects also such discrepancies were noted, the Minister said adding that they were corrected and his son was issued a fresh marksheet.

Mr Das dubbed the allegations levelled against him as ''baseless and motivated''.

The newspaper report stated that the President of the Board, on receipt of a petition on the marks of the Minister's son, had ordered an inquiry and asked the examination controller and the secretary to submit a report before August 4 last.

However, no inquiry report was submitted by the examination controller. On the other hand, the President was suddenly transferred and a senior OAS officer was posted in his place on August 7.
