Humid weather prevails in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Aug 11 (UNI) Hot and humid weather conditions prevailed in the plains as monsoon rain lashed few areas in Punjab and Haryana and several areas in Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours.

With higher levels of humidity ranging from 70 per cent to 90 per cent, people sweated at most places in the region.

Except Madopur in Punjab and Naraingarh in Haryana, which respectively recorded 5.0 mm and 7.0 mm rain, the twin states had no rains overnight.

However, moderate rain lashed several areas in Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills, triggering fresh landslides. All rivers and rivulets in the state were swollen following excessive rains in their catchment areas in the past few days.

Gamroor with 23.6 mm rainfall was the wettest place in Himachal Pradesh while Una recorded 23.4 mm downpour till this morning.

Several areas in Kangra district, including Nagrota Surian and Guler, also had moderate rainfall. Nagrota Surian recorded 10.5 mm and Guler 10.1 mm rain. Rain also lashed Sujanpur Tira, Naudan, Kheri, rampur and Kalpa.

Shimla and upper areas of the district were also lashed by rainfall. A dense fog enveloped the the capital town, reducing the visibility considerably in the town. Tourist resorts of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda also had rainfall bringing a considerable fall in the temperature.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas were pounded by sharp showers during the day after a brief spell of rain last night. However, humid weather persisted in the city with the maximum humidity recorded at 88 per cent and the minimum humidity at 58 per cent.

Parts of Jammu region also reported rainfall. Bhoond received 18.0 mm and Patti 6.0 mm rain till 0830 hours.

The Met Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours. It warned of heavy rain at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh during the next 48 hours.
