Heavy downpour predicted in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Port Blair, Aug 11 (UNI) The Meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall in isolated places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during next 24 hours.
Strong south-westerly wind with a speed between 75 and 85 kmph and high tide at sea is likely to occur along and off the coast of the islands, the Andaman islands Met Department in-charge informed today.
The weathermen have released an official warning advising local fishermen not to venture into the sea.
Meanwhile, a flood-like situation was created in a few low-lying villages of North Andaman due to last night's heavy rainfall.
About 15.3 mm rainfall was recorded in these islands since the last 24 hrs, while 1061 mm was recorded since January this year.
