Distribution of food items through PDS to be extended

Chennai, Aug 11 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Cabinet today decided to extend till January 2008, distribution of toor dal, urad dal, palm oil, sooji and maida through the Public Distribution System.

The Government, which had begun distribution of these food items in April and May last on a temporary basis following hike in prices, decided to extend the distribution as it was widely welcomed by the consumers.

Apart from the food items now being distributed, consumers would henceforth be given wheat flour, and also toor dal and urad dal as per their needs in 250 gm and 500 gm quantity, an official release here said.
