AIADMK MP, nine others injured in clash with police

Perambalur, Aug 11 (UNI) AIADMK Rajya Sabha member A Elavarasan and nine others were injured in a clash with the police following a road blockade at Perambalur town in the district this evening.

Police said the trouble began when the AIADMK cadres, led by Mr Elavarasan, resorted to a road blockade on the Tiruchiraplly-Chennai National Highway, demanding restoration of digital cameras installed by the party.

The digital cameras were removed in view of the visit of Local Administration Minister M K Stalin tomorrow.

Though District Collector Anil Meshram and senior police officers asked the agitators to withdraw, they stuck to their demand.

Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the agitators.

However, the workers allegedly clashed with the police, forcing them to fire tear gas shells. The workers went on a rampage and uprooted DMK flags and banners.

Meanwhile, the DMK men joined the issue and clashed with the agitators. Over 190 AIADMK men, including Elavarasan, were taken into custody.

Additional police force was drawn and police pickets were posted in the area.
