5 hardcore militants, including two top leaders, nabbed by troops

Imphal, Aug 11 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, troops apprehended two senior cadres of separate insurgent organisations and three other cadres during the past 48 hours in Manipur.

The PRO of Assam Rifles (AR) here today said acting on a tip off, troops of 21 AR of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) apprehended a senior cadre of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) from the valley areas of the state.

One 9 mm pistol with one magazine and five rounds were seized from the hardcore cadre, the PRO added.

In a seperate incident, acting on a tip off, troops of 21 AR launched operations at Kakching Bazaar at Thoubal and apprehended a cadre of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). He was handed over to the police for further investigation. Four live rounds of 9 mm pistols were recovered from his possession, the PRO said.

In yet another incident, troops of 32 AR of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched operations at Lilong at Thoubal district and apprehended two cadres of People's United Liberation Front (PULF).

One Chinese hand grenade was recovered from them. Both were handed over to Lilong Police station.

In another significant breakthrough, troops of 24 AR of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched operations at the Indo-Myanmar border at Moreh Town of Chandel district and apprehended a senior cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party. One 9 mm pistol with six live rounds were recovered from his possession and he was handed over to Imphal West police station, the PRO added.
