4 die in Jharkhand, flood like situation in Andaman

New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) At least four persons, including one woman, were killed by lightning in Jharkhand, while the flood situation in Kolhapur remained unchanged for the fifth consecutive day today and flood-like situation was created in a few low-lying villages of North Andaman.

In the north, moderate rain lashed several areas in Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills, triggering fresh landslides.

Shimla and upper areas of the district were also lashed by rainfall. A dense fog enveloped the the capital town, reducing the visibility considerably. Tourist resorts of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda also had rainfall bringing a considerable fall in the temperature.

Hot and humid weather conditions prevailed in the plains as monsoon rain eluded the twin states of Punjab and Haryana except at Madhopur and Naraingarh, which received rain overnight.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas were pounded by sharp showers during the day after a brief spell of rain last night. However, humid weather persisted in the city.

The citizens of the national capital continued to experience another hut and humid day even as the temperature dropped slightly to 36 degrees Celsius, still two degrees above normal.

However, the met department has predicted some respite from the current weather from tomorrow with scattered rainfall in Delhi and other plains of Northwest India during the next three days due to the Northwards movement of the Monsoon trough.

Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Marathwada.

Intense heat and humidity in gripped Patna for the third consecutive day today. However, there is forecast of a cloudy sky with a possibility of rains in some districts during the next 24 hours.

Similarly, rain or thundershowers are likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Towards the west, Chattisgarh, Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan, Goa and Gujarat received rains and thunderstorms in most of the places.

Rain or thundershowers have occurred at a few places in Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada.

In the deccan region, heavy to very heavy rains have occurred at a few places in South interior Karnataka.

In the deccan region, the Bhagamandala and Talacauvery in Kodagu District continue to be cut off from the rest of the region even after a day's respite from the rain that has been lashing the region for the past week now.

Further down south, the southwest monsoon has become active over Kerala and Lakswadeep, with rains lashing the region for the last 24 hrs.

Isolated heavy rain are likely in Kerala, Lakshwadeep and Andaman and Nicobar islands during the next 48 hours.
