Steps on for houses to all tsunami-hit fishermen: CM

Puducherry,Aug 10(UNI) The administration was taking steps to construct houses for all tsunami-affected fishermen in the union territory, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said here today.

Addressing the press here, Mr Rangasamy said some voluntary organisations had already constucted houses for the tsunami-affected sparking demand from leaders of the fishermen community for houses for all the affected.

Following this, the amdinistration decided to acquire land and convert them into plots for constructing houses after obtaining funds from the Union Government, he added.

Mr Rangasamy said the government would acquire 57 acre of land belonging to the Education Department at Kalapet and 1,960 houses for fishermen of Pillaichavady, Kanagachettikkulam, Kalapet and Chinna Kalapet would be constructed on the site.

The foundation stone laying function would soon be held.In areas where land is not available, the administration would take a decision on the construction according to the prevailing situation.
