Six Indian scholars selected for fellowship in Australia

New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) Six scholars from different Indian universities have been selected for a Fellowship programme in Australia for 2007-2008, the Australian High Commission here announced today.

These include a professor each from the SNDT University and Burdwan University, two research scholars from the Jawaharlal Nehru University and one each from the Jadavpur and Burdwan universities.

The fellowship given by the Australia-India Council (AIC) and managed by a consortium of Australian universities, acquaints the visiting fellows with select study centres in Australia and allows them to pursue individual research for ten weeks.

The fellowship covers a wide range of study areas including Australian literature, politics and history, environment and health, films and performing arts, communications, issues relating to indigenous Australians, ethnicities, tourism, multi-culturalism and gender studies.

Initiated in 2003 as part of he AIC studies Programme, 21 academicians and senior research scholars from various Indian universities have been awarded the fellowship.
