Nitish donates one months salary for flood vicitms
Patna, Aug 10 (UNI) Concerned over the plight of the flood-affected people, Bihar Chef Minister Nitish Kumar today donated Rs 35,000, his one month's salary, to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
Mr Kumar handed over his salary to secretary of the CM relief fund Chanchal Kumar.
After donating his salary, Mr Kumar made an appeal to the people to donate generously for fighting the flood fury.
He described the current flood as an ''unprecedented'' one, saying the state government had taken all efforts for rescue and relief operation of the flood-battered people.
Mr Kumar, who was personally monitoring the relief work taken up in the flood-hit areas with the help of the Air Force and Army, expressed surprise over the Centres assistance of Rs 232 crore for flood relief.
He said the Centre did not grant any additional or special relief to the state and the amount released was its due share.
Earlier, UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, accompnaied by Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, had made an aerail survey of the flood-ravaged areas of Bihar and had assured of extending full financial assistance as well as logistic support to the state government in fighting the flood situation.
Meanwhile, Bihar Governor R S Gavai had already donated his one month salary in the CM relief fund for the flood victims.
While making the contribution, he had appealed to all for donating in the fund for carrying out the relief work.
