NHRC notice to UP, Andhra Primary Education Secretaries

New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) Taking suo motu cognisance of a news report about the death of a class six student due to corporal punishment in Uttar Pradesh's Farukhabad district, NHRC has sent a notice to the District Magistrate and state's Primary Education Secretary.

The Commission has sought a factual report on the incident from the officials about the incident within four weeks.

''The incident is a serious issue of violation of human rights of children,'' it said.

The August 6 report said Brijesh Prajapati a student of Kakraiya Primary School under Kamalganj police station, Farukhabad was beaten up by his teacher, Kishan Singh, for talking in the class.

He died in a private hospital on August 4.

The Commission also took suo moto cognisance of another news report which said a Class III student of a Missionary School in Andhra Pradesh was given electric shocks by the school Principal to improve his academic performance.

The report said 10-year-old girl, Shirisha, suffered scars on her hands and feet. The report quoted more incidents of corporal punishment in the State.

The Commission after going through the press report issued notice to the Hyderabad Collector and state Primary Education secretary for a factual report within four weeks.
