NHRC notice to Assam Primary Education Secretary
New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission has sent notice to Assam Primary Education Secretary and District Collector Barpeta, seeking a factual report on whether children in a school were being deprived of midday meal by the headmaster.
Taking suo motu cognizance of a news report, the Commission described the incident as distressing and directed the officials to submit the report within four weeks.
According to the August 1 report, students of Kahikuchi, Lower Primary School were not being provided the meals for the past two months despite getting regular funds for the same under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Mission.
The Commission also took suo motu cognizance of another news report which said the Koraga tribe in Kerala was facing threat to its survival because of malnourishment, poverty and diseases.
NHRC has sought a report from the Kerala Chief secretary on the issue within four weeks.
