JK police officer, university official arrested
Srinagar, Aug 10 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police arrested its senior officer and an official of the Kashmir university on charges of extortion.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Hazratbal, said a specific information was received that an official of the university Habibullah and a police inspector Fayaz Ahmad were extorting money from two agents who bring students from outside the state for admission in various private B.ed colleges in the valley.
He said a FIR was registered and investigation taken up during which it was established that the police and university officials have extorted Rs two lakhs from the two agents. One of the agents was identified as Naresh Kumar, he said.
He said some of the extorted money was recovered from the accused and further investigation taken up in the case.
Both the officials were arrested, he said.
A large number of students from different parts of the country, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Bihar are studying in different private B.ed colleges in the valley.
