Chennai, Aug 10 (UNI) The high-level Ministerial team, constituted by the Tamil Nadu Government to elicit the views of the local people on the proposed Titanium dioxide project by Tata Steel, would visit the areas on August 13.

An official release here said people in Tuticorin and Tirunelveli districts, where the project is coming up, could appear before the team, headed by Minister for Mines and Higher Education K Ponmudi and express their views.

The government had signed an MoU with the Tatas for setting up the Rs 2,500 crore project, but put it on hold following objections by the main opposition AIADMK and the constituents of the DMK-led DPA.

In view of the objections raised by various political parties against the project, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had announced that the government would take a decision on implementing the project only after ascertaining the views of the local people.

Later, a high-level Ministerial committee was constituted. It comprised Tourism Minister N Suresh Rajan, Animal Husbandry Minister Ms Geetham Jeevan, Industries Secretary, Revenue Secretary and Commissioner for Mines and Minerals.
