BMC to pay NGOs who sterilize dogs in the city
Mumbai, Aug 10 (UNI) After the Bombay High Court directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to seek help from NGOs in the city to deal with the problem of stray dogs, the corporation has set up a monitoring committee under a Deputy Municipal Commissioner that will compensate the organisations that sterilize the strays.
According to BMC officials, if the Corporation is providing free water and electricity to the NGO, the cost of sterilising of dogs and transporting the dog to a new surrounding, is Rs 600 per dog.
In case an NGO, which pays water and electricity charges to the BMC and has sterilised a dog and the BMC is taking the responsibility of transporting the dog to a new surrounding, the NGO will be paid Rs 675 per dog by the civic body.
If the NGO sterilises a dog and takes the responsibility of transporting the dog to a new surrounding, the NGO will be paid Rs 900 per dog. In this case, the electricity and water charges are borne by the Corporation.
If an NGO that has been provided with an open plot of land where the NGO has built a stray centre and bears electricity and water cost, besides sterilising a dog and is later on transported by the Corporation to another plot, the NGO will be paid Rs 900 per dog.
If the NGO has been provided with land and it has built a stray centre and water and electricity charges are being borne by the NGO, the BMC will pay Rs 1,200 per dog for sterilisation.
