BMC to appoint private agencies to keep the city clean
Mumbai, Aug 10 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to rope in five private agencies for keeping the city clean and to prevent people from spitting and littering the city.
Speaking to reporters today, Additional Municipal Commissioner R A Rajiv said, ''The private agencies will help the BMC in keeping a watch on elements who litter the place and according to the by-laws, they can fine the accused or ask him to clean up the place.'' He added, ''The guards will work under the BMC according to the civic body's by-laws.'' ''The plan has been implemented in some places and has proved to be successful. The new contract will be awarded for a period of five years,'' Mr Rajiv pointed out.
