Sales tax exemption in diesel for Guj fishermen

Gandhinagar, Aug 9 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has announced his decision to exempt fishermen from sales tax in high-speed diesel used in their motor boats.

Giving information in this regard, state Urban Development Minister I K Jadeja told reporters yesterday, ''The exemption would be applicable to those fishermen owning boats of shorter than 20 meter length. In order to implement this exemption, the government has decided to issue diesel cards to 8544 motor boats.'' ''This apart, those fishermen owning bigger boats will be given sales tax exemption of Rs 6.92 per liter diesel. There will be a total benefit of Rs 115.35 crore to fishermen from this exemption,'' said Mr Jadeja.
