Rain havoc continues in Kodagu and Mysore Districts

Bangalore, Aug 9 (UNI) Adi Shakthi temple in Mangladevinagar in Madikeri town the headquarters of Kodagu district collapsed, Bhagamandala and Talakaveri continued to be cut off from the outside world for the fourth consecutive day even as the rain fury continued in Kodagu and Mysore Districts today.

In Madikeri, Kanive lake breached due to heavy rain and a jeep was swept away at Bhagamandala in the floods. Schools remained closed for the fifth day in the District.

People climbing up a cliff under a temple had a narrow escape as Adi Shakthi slid down with the mud. Search for the temple bells, hundi and statue is on. Deputy Commissioner Niranjan and other officials visited the spot. The houses located further below were damaged as the debris with the mud landed on their roof top.

The farmers Ramanand and Bharadwaj complained that a lake at Kanive has breached due to rain fall and substandard work is the cause for it.

Three people, who dared to cross the flooded bridge at Bhagamandala, were traveling in the jeep when it was swept away to a distance. The inmates had a miraculous escape and the jeep was pulled to safety using a rope and a tractor.

Hundreds of acres of land at South Kodagu in Balele - Nittur area were inundated. Half a dozen houses collapsed in the region since last two days. Cluster of villages around Shanthalli at Somwarpet taluk were inundated with streams and water falls over flowing. This region located at the foothills of Pushpagiri has received 303 inches of rainfall till yesterday.

According to a Mysore report, inflow into Krishnaraja Sagar, built across the river Cauvery, has been increasing constantly. The water level in KRS has reached its maximum level of 124.80 feet today with inflow of 69316 cusecs and outflow was little reduced to 66261 cusecs from one lakhs cusecs last evening.

The combined outflow of both KRS and Kabini Reservoir was one lakh cusecs releasing to the river. The inflow of the kabini was 34319 cusecs while the outflow was 32400 cusecs.

Due to heavy outflow from the KRS many picnic spots submerged under the flood waters and even Pachimavahini a traditional ritual both place was completely under the waters at Srirangpatana.

The normal life was thrown out of gears in the Hassan district as the rain continued for the sixth day. Since the Hemavathy Reservoir touched its maximum level of 2922 feet and authorities releasing the water to the river, the inflow and outflow was 36000 and 32600 cusecs respectively.
