Rain havoc continues in Karnataka districts

Bangalore, Aug 9 (UNI) The rains continued to wreeal havoc in several districts of Karnataka as the South West Monsoon was vigorous for the fourth consecutive day today.

The worst-affected villages were Mangladevinagar, Bhagamandala and Talakaveri.

At Mangladevinagar, a temple collapsed, when the villagers climbed atop the roof of the temple to take shelter from the flood .

At Madikeri, a jeep was swept as lake Kanive overflowed.

However, the three persons travelling in the jeep managed to swim to safety.

At Balele, hundred acres of land were inundated and over half a dozen houses collapsed. The region located at the foothills of Pushpagiri received 303 inches of rainfall till yesterday.

A report from Mysore said the inflow into Krishnaraja Sagar, across river Cauvery, had increased constantly.

The water level reached its maximum of 124.80 ft today with inflow of 69316 cusecs. The outflow was maintained at 66261 cusecs.

Normal life was thrown out of gear in Hassan district as the rain continued for the sixth day.

As the Hemavathy Reservoir touched its maximum level of 2922 ft, the authorities had increased the release.

The inflow and outflow from the reservoir were 36000 and 32600 cusecs respectively.
