Poor water management main cause for shortage: Prof Chandrashekhar
Mysore, Aug 9 (UNI) The problem of shortage of water being faced by farmers in Karnataka was due to poor water management system being practiced by the successive governments in the state, according to Legislative Council Chairman B K Chandrashekar.
Inaugurating the two-day workshop on 'Irrigation water management; Problems and reform measures' here, he said the water crisis had compounded and aggrieved parties had to seek help from judiciary mainly because farmers and irrigation engineers were not working in close coordination like in Tamil Nadu.
Separate departments for medium and minor irrigation had also contributed for poor water management in the state. He sought formation of a committee to look into all these aspects.
The elected representatives had not shown enough interest in help solving the problems of farmers, put in place an effective water management and conservation mechanism in the assembly, he added.
