NHRC notices to Govts of Rajasthan, UP, Orissa

New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to Rajasthan government and sought a factual report regarding the death of a boy due to corporal punishment by his teacher in Udaipur.

The Commission has asked the State Chief Secretary and Udaipur SSP and DM to submit the report within a month.

Taking suo moto cognisance of a news report, the Commission said the incident is a violation of human rights of the victim.

According to the report, 17-year-old Arpit Kawadia, a Class XII student in 'Alok Senior Secondary School, Udaipur was beaten up by a lady teacher for making noise during examination.

The boy was reportedly admitted in the MB Hospital, Udaipur, where he died on August 2.

The Commission also issued notices to governments of Uttar Pradesh and Orissa.

The NHRC has asked for a factual report from the Orissa Chief Secretary and District Collector of Khurda in four weeks regarding recovery of more than 15 female foetuses in Khurda.

According to a news report on August 2, the foetuses were recovered from the backyard of a private nursing home.

The Commission has sought within four weeks a factual report from the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary and the Varanasi District Magistrate about the reported suicide by five disabled people in Varanasi.
