Haryana to spend Rs 12 cr on renewable energy programmes

Chandigarh, Aug 9 (UNI) The Department of Renewable Energy in Haryana would incur a sum of Rs 12 crore during the current financial year to implement various renewable energy programmes in the state.

This was stated by Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan here today.

He said the department had electrified 45 unelectrified 'dhanies' (clusters of houses) of the Morni hills area. Besides, it had also implemented a special project for installation of 1489 of solar energy based street lighting systems at a cost of Rs 3.82 crore in the districts of Ambala, Panchkula and Yamuna Nagar having 50 per cent or more scheduled castes population.

Mr Chander Mohan said the department had also implemented an innovative scheme costing Rs 1.68 crore to run the computer labs with Solar Energy in 21 Schools in Rohtak district.

Besides, a number of schemes on solar water heating, solar cooker, solar home lighting systems, energy efficient agricultural pumpsets and institutional biogas plants were also being implemented in the State.

Mr Chander Mohan said Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda would lay the foundation stone of Akshay Urja Bhawan on August 12 in Panchkula. The Urja Bhawan would be constructed over an one acre of land in sector 17 at Panchkula at a cost of Rs four crore.

He said that the proposed building would be a model futuristic office building having international standards of all the possible sustainable building concepts including energy efficient, solar active and solar passive architectural applications like solar chimneys, evaporative cooling, solar power and water recycling.
