Govt takes control of Judicial Officers Housing Society
Bangalore, Aug 9 (UNI) The Karnataka government today took control of the Judicial Officers Housing Society, which had been accused of malpractice, and appointed an Administrator to look after the day- to -day affair.
The Society was mired in controversy over a report submitted by Joint House Committee headed by legislator A T Ramaswamy, which studied into encroachment of government lands, mainly in and around Bangalore.
The Committee had recommended 'strong' action against the Society alleging that it had committed illegal land development, sanctioned sites to non-members and involved financial misappropriation to the tune of Rs 150 crore.
The House Committee in its report had said the members of the Society had sold sites to some legal luminaries, who were not its members.
Those who benefited from the Society included former and serving Supreme Court and High Court judges.
The issue had been raised in both the Houses of the Karnataka legislature.
