Fire destroyed groceries and furniture of Army canteen

Barrackpore, Aug 9 (UNI) A devastating fire destroyed substantial quantity of consumer items of the canteen of an Army Brigade, deployed at Latbagan in North 24 Parganas, today.

An army official said groceries and furniture worth approximately Rs one crore were destroyed early today.

West Bengal Fire Service officers, who fought the flames, said the fire that broke out at 0945 engulfed the entire canteen. They said their three fire fighting vehicles and two from Air Force were pressed into service to douse the flames.

No casualty was reported so far, WBFS sources said.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, they added.
