Assembly committee to scrutinise medical bills of MLAs
Mumbai, Aug 9 (UNI) Advocate General Ravi Kadam today informed the Bombay High Court that the Maharashtra Assembly has formed a high level committee to scrutinise alleged exorbitant disbursements made to sitting and former members of the Assembly towards medical expenses.
During hearing on a Public Interest Litigation, raising issue of exorbitant disbursements made to numerous MLAs, Kadam informed that the committee, headed jointly by the Speaker of the lower house and chairman of the upper house, will scrutinise all past disbursements and also suggest guidelines for future disbursements.
He said the five member committee, which was already been set up, has high ranking medical and administrative officers as members.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice D Y Chandrachud appreciated AG's solution as quite balancing but observed that they could not give up the petition and directed the state government to produce complete files, bearing original notings, ragarding disbursements made to four members of the legislature.
